My name is Sharon Pavey and I’m 38 years old. I’m married to Daniel and we live in the small town of Honiton in East Devon. Dan & I have two beautiful children – Natasha is nine and Aleck is six. I am the coordinator for the East Devon Green Party and a founder member of Communities Before Developers. I’m also on the regional committee of the south west green party as fundraiser, with a remit to raise funds for the European Parliament elections in 2014.

I’m originally from North Yorkshire/County Durham and grew up in the countryside as the eldest child in a large family. My husband Dan grew up in Honiton and Combe Raleigh and brought us back to live in Devon in 2008. We settled here immediately and all absolutely love the Devon countryside and being close to a loving and supportive extended family.
Work and education has taken me to different parts of the UK including Liverpool where I worked as a veterinary nurse in my early twenties. I then went to University in Bristol studying Women’s Studies and met my husband Dan. I worked in public libraries in Bristol then at a further education college. I also volunteered at Bristol Women’s Aid, the Bristol Zoo Gardens and skydived to raise funds for the NSPCC !
I lived in Bristol for five years before Dan and I moved to Sussex, living first in Hove then in the lovely town of Seaford near Eastbourne. I enjoyed working at Eastbourne College as a student counsellor and manager of the students’ union until I had my daughter Natasha in 2002.
I then studied drama in Brighton and London and spent a few years acting, directing and producing before taking a break to have my son Aleck. You might have by now gathered that I’m not the sort of person who sits still for very long – so I started my own small business selling wooden toys, when I was just a few months pregnant with Aleck. We ran the business for five years but had to make the difficult decision to wind it up in 2010 due to the recession. I now work as an exam invigilator at Honiton Community College during exam time.
While I was I trekking up the highest mountain in Morocco in late 2008, raising £2000 for a children’s charity, I decided I’d like to try and make a difference with my life. I was also moved by the UN Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen and realised I needed to get involved with the movement to reduce the effects of climate change.
I joined the Green Party in autumn 2009 and helped set up a new Green Party group in East Devon. I was then selected to stand as a candidate for East Devon in the 2010 General Election and gained 1.5% of the vote in an area which had not seen an active green group for some 20 years. I was elected as a councillor on Honiton Town Council in May 2011 and I am also on the south west green party regional committee as fundraiser.
The East Devon Greens also ran for the East Devon District Council elections in May 2011 putting Greens up in seven wards. Greens came second to the Tories in Honiton beating all other parties and independents at district level.
